Kids Jiu Jitsu Classes

If you’re looking for an extra-curricular program for your child that builds resilience, discipline and confidence, you have found the right place! Northern Beaches Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Cromer has focused Kids programs for children ages 4 and up. We teach classes in two age groups:

  • Nippers: Ages 4 to 7

  • Grommets: Ages 8 to 15

These age groups are just a guideline. Generally from 16 years of age, they are physically strong and mature enough to join our adults classes, however we assess each child individually and fit them in the class that will best build their skills and confidence. See our timetable for current class times, which are offered 6 days a week.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is far more practical than traditional martial arts such as taekwondo or karate as it teaches children to defend themselves from the ground, even if they are in a compromised position.

Every class at Northern Beaches Jiu-Jitsu Academy consists of physical exercise, self-defence techniques and education on the art of Jiu-Jitsu. Your child will grow in their coordination, agility, mobility and flexibility. Northern Beaches Jiu-Jitsu Academy will become a safe place for your child to socialise, build self-discipline, respect authority and learn to defend themselves.

Class Structure

Our Kids martial arts program is perfect for any child who is starting or continuing their Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey. Our students wear a traditional uniform called a gi. A typical 45-minute class includes:

  • Warm-ups and games: Jiu-Jitsu inspired movements and drills to help them warm up and prepare the body for training.

  • Techniques: both standing and ground grappling techniques essential for self-defence. These include takedowns, sweeps, escapes, and submission holds.

  • Drilling: practising the techniques with increasing resistance from their training partner.

  • Sparring: carefully supervised grappling, with no strikes involved.

Not sure if they’ll like Jiu-Jitsu? Book a free trial class and see.

Martial Arts for Anti-Bullying

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has become a practical and advanced self-defence art, particularly for anti-bullying. Unlike other martial arts that teach primarily striking to defend one’s self, Jiu-Jitsu teaches how to deescalate and if need be gain an advantageous position to protect one’s self and minimise significant injury even to the alleged bully.

Benefits of Jiu-Jitsu to Prevent Bullying at School

Bullying is unfortunately too common in schools. Here at Northern Beaches Jiu-Jitsu Academy, we strive to help children in dealing with this epidemic by teaching them proper self-defence techniques and simple, yet effective, ways to defuse a potential bully. By enrolling your child in our academy, you can rest easy knowing they will learn proper techniques against bullies and build the confidence to stand up against bullying if such a situation were to occur. We at Northern Beaches Jiu-Jitsu Academy stand against bullying and stand up for our students.
