Adults Jiu Jitsu Classes
Coming into a martial arts academy can be intimidating for the beginning student. Our goal with the fundamentals class is to allow our students to learn jiu jitsu by focusing on the controlled drilling of techniques without active sparring. The class also serves as a foundation for all students at The Northern Beaches Jiu Jitsu Academy, teaching the principles of the art and committing the core movements to muscle memory.
We educate our students on how to have better control with their techniques, preparing them for live training. Because of how we’ve formatted our classes, it has helped prevent injuries, provided an increased control of techniques and given our student a great deal of confidence on the mats, and these key factors are what separates us from other Jiu Jitsu academies.
Our Advanced Curriculum is designed for those students with their Blue Belt and above. This program enables students to delve deeper into the techniques and strategic movements of jiu jitsu.

Why More Women Should Practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an excellent workout, combining both anaerobic and aerobic exercises, but it’s not just a good physical workout. Often called “kinaesthetic chess”, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is also a mental workout, knowing an opponent’s next move, anticipating it and countering it.
The principles of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are that a smaller, weaker person can defend themselves against a larger, stronger person. Practitioners use the sport to learn self-defence, increase spatial awareness and improve their self confidence.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has grown in popularity for both men and women. Increasingly women are turning to classes for self-defence, empowerment and fitness.
It makes you a positive role model for younger girls: Throughout their childhood, little girls will encounter all kinds of women that they will potentially look up to. When you’re a woman who does jiu-jitsu, you’re providing them with a role model who practices healthy habits, is disciplined, and can defend themselves.
Self-defence: In six months to a year, women can effectively defend themselves in any number of situations by learning to take the fight to the ground. Using leverage and proper techniques, someone of any size is able to defeat their opponent without hurting them.
Empowerment: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teaches women to love their body for what it can do, because it doesn’t require being big, strong, or tall. It’s all technique. Women are able to feel empowered with increased mental, physical, emotional and spiritual strength.
Fitness: While Brazilian Jiu Jitsu doesn’t necessarily require strength it is still a workout, and requires endurance, because it is both aerobic and anaerobic, it burns calories, up to 700 in an hour according to some studies. It is also good for joints and muscles because it increase overall mobility and flexibility.
